The Milano Hot Jazz Orchestra was founded in 1997 by Jack Russo, Paolo Gaiotti and Claudio Perelli. The purpose of the three musicians was to recreate the original atmosphere of classic jazz as it was created by the various groups during the "Roaring Twenties" in Chicago and New Orleans. To do this, it was necessary to resort to a careful study of the various sounds of that specific musical "era"; The sound of the "Orchestra" is characterized by many sung tunes and various musical nuances obtained thanks to the presence in the band of musicians being able to play up to four different instruments each. The repertoire of the "M.H.J.O." contains the first recordings of Duke Ellington ("Stevedore stomp","A Gypsy without a song", "Accordion Joe"), Fletcher Henderson Orchestra ("Sugar," "It 's the dardnest thing, "RollOn Mississippi Roll on"), McKinney's Cotton Pickers and all the best of classic jazz of the '20 and '30. The peculiarity of the MHJO is that, even with 8 active playing musicians , this mini-big band accounts more than 14 instruments that are currently played almost in every tune (Photo courtesy by Daniele Curti).
